Introduction: Daim Esen de Rijke, born on December 16, 1989, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, comes from a multicultural background with a Turkish mother and a Dutch father. Growing up in a loving family with roots in Adana, Turkey, and Rotterdam, Netherlands, Daim was exposed to different cultures, traditions, and perspectives from an early age. His parents, who were baby boomers with a hippy lifestyle, instilled in him a love for travel, freedom, and exploration. Despite their divorce when he was young, they remained best friends, providing Daim with a supportive and nurturing environment.

Early Experiences and Musical Journey: Daim’s early years were marked by significant experiences that shaped his worldview and passion for music. At the age of four, his family moved to Moda, Istanbul, where his father established the first LGBTQI club in Turkey. However, due to the government’s reaction, they returned to the Netherlands, where Daim began his education at a yoga-based elementary school called “Savita.” This early exposure to spirituality, meditation, and yoga laid the foundation for his later interest in holistic health and well-being.

During a gap between school enrollments, Daim embarked on an Africa tour with his parents, where he immersed himself in the freedom and beauty of nature. Interacting with indigenous tribes like the Masai Mara, he learned valuable lessons about happiness, unity, and the interconnectedness of all life. These experiences fostered a rebel spirit within him and a yearning for true freedom, eventually leading him to pursue his musical journey.

At the age of four, Daim had his first encounter with drums, igniting a lifelong passion for rhythm. By the age of nine, he began studying drums seriously, and at eleven, he performed a free improvisation of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on drums at a school event. Throughout high school, Daim played in various bands, including his first group, “Eclipse,” which he co-founded with his friends. Fascinated by chemistry and the energetic understanding of the world, he initially pursued Molecular Sciences and Technology at the University of Leiden & Delft but realized that his heart yearned for music. Encountering a Dutch family from the band “Treble” during his travels in Thailand, he was inspired to apply to the Conservatory of Amsterdam and embarked on a four-year rollercoaster of musical exploration.

Musical Accomplishments: Daim’s musical journey has been marked by diverse collaborations and achievements. He played drums in several bands, including “Hausmagger” with Theo Wesselo, “BRAHM” (a psychedelic blues rock trio), and “Nachtschade” (a psychedelic avant-garde blues band). He also joined “Barry Hay & The Flying V Formation,” featuring singer Barry Hay from “The Golden Earring” and guitarist Pablo van der Poel. In 2014, he became a member of the band “NOSOYO,” which later transformed into a pop duo with Donata Kramarz.

Throughout his career, Daim recorded albums and EPs with different bands, achieving recognition and acclaim. His work with “NOSOYO” earned them the Berlin Music Award for Best Band in 2020. Daim’s talent and dedication to music have allowed him to perform alongside renowned artists and experience the transformative power of live concerts.

Personal Journey and Passion: Daim’s multicultural background and diverse life experiences have shaped his perspective on home, freedom, and personal growth. Having lived in Istanbul, the Netherlands, and Berlin, he struggled to find a sense of belonging but eventually discovered that home resides within his own heart. Nature and the sea provide him with solace and peace, fostering a deep connection to his inner self.

Aside from music, Daim is passionate about dancing, traveling, holistic health, real estate, attending festivals and burns, self-expression, clothing, and savoring spicy food. These interests reflect his desire for self-exploration, connection with others, and a harmonious way of life.

Influences and Values: Daim attributes his life-loving nature and balanced perspective to his Turkish grandmother (“anneanne”) and his mother, who imparted important values of patience, open-mindedness, curiosity, and empathy. Growing up in a multicultural family, he learned not to discriminate or judge based on external appearances and developed a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity.

Vision for the Future: Through his own inner exploration and experiences, Daim aspires to co-create a more beautiful world alongside like-minded individuals. Rooted in nature and connected to the present moment, he envisions a future where unconditional love and harmony prevail, transcending boundaries and celebrating the essence of being human.
